Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, was the symbol of corporate social responsibility and sustainability. She pioneered with manufacturing beauty products without testing on animals and was one of the first to use sustainable packaging.
She used the Body Shop's fame and success to advocate political and ethical ideals. Franchisees of her Body Shop stores were required to support a local charity. ‘She campaigned on 'green issues' years before it became fashionable to do so, inspiring millions to bring sustainable products to market’, said former UK prime minister Gordon Brown on her passing in 2007.
With Anita’s passion for the planet and campaigning for good causes, The Body Shop was always more than just a beauty brand. It had purpose – profit and principles working in harmony. Their products were never tested on animals and they worked fairly with farmers and suppliers, helping communities. Today, there are more and more brands following in their footsteps. One of her famous quotes is “Businesses have the power to do good”. And an even more remarkable one: " If you think you're too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito.
We love you Anita!
